Madsen and Deaconess – Long Term Care

Living Options – Madsen & Deaconess neighborhoods

Eben Ezer’s skilled nursing center is staffed with professional caregivers; nurses and certified nurse assistants. Neighbors are evaluated regularly to provide as much independence or attention as is needed. Private living spaces offer all the comforts of home.

Long-Term Care

We’ve initiated an approach to long-term care based on the Eden Alternative.  Developed by Harvard-educated geriatrician Dr. William Thomas, A Place Called Home represents a shift from the traditional institutional nursing facility to a home environment that encourages companionship, meaningful activity, variety, spontaneity, and person-directed care. We adhere to this model by offering things such as:  greater autonomy of meal choice and offerings, choice in bath and bed times; access to snacks between meals; and inclusion in meal preparation by our neighbors.

A “neighborhood model” for living which includes several separate small communities or neighborhoods, with a common living, dining, and kitchen area.  The neighborhoods have shared nursing and housekeeping staff for consistent care.  This approach helps promote companionship among neighbors and provides familiar, consistent, and nurturing care from our professional caregivers.

Nutritious meals and snacks are served to each resident, with special dietary needs and preferences carefully considered. A variety of activities are offered several times a day in various locations across the neighborhoods.

Meaningful activities such as concerts in the park, outings to local events, travel to Denver for sporting events, hula dancers at our annual luau, petting zoos, dinner at local restaurants, rodeos and BBQ’s.

Intergenerational programs where many local youth participate regularly with things such as reading, playing games, delivering ice water, making crafts, taking walks, gardening, playing bingo, and assisting residents to various activities.  Eben Ezer has a live-in Labradoodle named Samson.

Respite Care

Respite Care provides temporary relief to those who care for family members who might otherwise require permanent placement in a facility outside the home. Even though families take great joy in providing care for their loved ones so that they can remain at home, the physical, emotional, and financial consequences for the family caregiver can be overwhelming. Respite care provides the family caregiver a much-needed temporary break from the often exhausting challenges. Eben Ezer provides opportunities for short-term respite care in the skilled nursing center or assisted living.
